Why Donate?

There are numerous reasons why people decide to donate instead of selling their vessel. We've complied the most common ones below.

Caricuture of a boat on the sea

The vessel is broken in some way and/or is too much for the owner to fix

Donor does not have the time to enjoy the vessel anymore due to personal or work matters.

Service and maintenance issues are overwhelming.

Donor is tired of paying for storage on a boat they no longer use or no longer runs.

Donor just simply wants to donate their item instead of selling in order to help those in need.

For some donors a tax deduction is far more beneficial than selling due to their tax category.

Are you approved by the IRS?

Yes! Yachts For Hope, a DBA of Trinity Life Outreach is a

501(c)(3) tax exempt non-profit. Because we are recognized by the IRS as a non profit, you can donate your vessel or make an online donation and receive an IRS tax deduction, all while helping those in crisis.

How long is the donation process?

The donation process typically takes 2 weeks from start to finish. We offer an easy and streamlined process that requires little to no work from the donors part. You will feel at-ease knowing there is a helpful and knowledgeable representative available every step of the way. We assign a representative for each donor, so you always have the same contact person specialized to your donation.

What exactly is "Fair Market Value"?

By definition, Fair Market Value is the price at which an item or property would change hands between a willing buyer and a willing seller, neither being under any compulsion to buy or sell and both having reasonable knowledge of relevant facts. We work vigorously to liquify your donation for the maximum tax-deduction available.

Can I donate my item without a title or registration?

As a donor, you must have a title or registration for your vessel. Laws vary state-by-state, but there is always some form of legal document required. If you don't currently have the title, there are typically options available to obtain a duplicate title and re-issue registration.

Please reach out to us at 561-822-6621 to further discuss your options.

What kind of tax forms will I need?

After you donate, we will provide you with Form 1098-C which affirms the final value received when the vessel was sold. When you file your income taxes, you will use Schedule A to itemize your deductions and claim the donation. If your donation is worth more than $500, you should attach Form 8283 to document the donation. If any of this sounds overwhelming, rest assured Yachts For Hope will be there to guide you every step of the way!
